Laju Sholola
Laju Sholola (b. 1989, Nigeria) is a visual artist based in Lagos, Nigeria. She is known for her signature unfinished lines and sparing tea – soaked brushstrokes with ink and acrylic presented in small to large scale canvas / paper. She uses this technique to create a range of fluid, transparent brown tones on the backgrounds and skins of the characters in her work to describe the essence and vulnerabilities of humans.
Engaging with themes of visibility, vulnerability, and strength, Laju creates paintings that often focus on the intimate expressions and moods of women to capture the uncertainties and hope in their journey of self-discovery.
Laju has participated in duo and group exhibitions which include The Rising Exhibition by Falana for an EP Project (2021), WIMBIZ Showcase by Bloom Art Gallery (2021), “Primary Textures” by Pacers Gallery (2021), Rele Young Contemporaries Boot Camp Exhibition by Rele Gallery, Lagos (2020), “iDesign Art 6th Edition” by iDesign by Tola Akerele (2020), “Dialogue I: Cultural Perspectives” by the Alliance Francaise, Lagos (2019).
