Okoye Chukwuemeka John (b. January 13, 1997) is a Nigerian realist painter based in Nigeria. He studied Fine and Applied Arts at the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, and developed his practice further under realist master Dennis Ani. His work is grounded in observation and emotional depth, using painting as a means to translate unspoken human experiences into visual form.

Working primarily with oil on canvas and charcoal on paper, Okoye constructs layered figurative compositions that focus on facial expressions, body language, and psychological presence. His practice is driven by empathy and lived observation, exploring the idea that many individuals are unable to fully express themselves due to social, cultural, political, and historical constraints. Through realism, he positions his work as a voice for both himself and those whose emotions often go unheard.

Okoye’s exhibition history reflects a rapidly growing international presence. His solo exhibitions include Such Is Life (Mitochondria Gallery, Houston, Texas, 2023) and Little Things That Matter (Out of Africa, 2025).

His museum exhibitions include Brother, Brother: The Interior Lives of Black Men at the African Diaspora Art Museum of Atlanta (2025), presented through the CCH Pounder-Koné Collection; Shared Vision at the African American Museum in Philadelphia (2024); and Double ID at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, Detroit (2024), also associated with the CCH Pounder-Koné Collection.
