Mitochondria Gallery is pleased to present Bloom. This duo exhibition features works from visual artist Ibim Cookey (Port Harcourt, Nigeria) and Kingsley Dzelamonyuy (Douala, Cameroon). Both artists are making their North American debut with this exhibition.

Bloom is a state of development and growth. It can also be translated as the state of freshness and beauty. The body of works in this exhibition interrogate the transient relationship between the youth of today and societal expectations. Globalization and web 2.0 have led to the rapid spread of ideas beyond borders. Identity and societal roles are not solely anchored in tradition. Presenting works based on portraiture, Bloom offers a glimpse into the transient landscape of life in the Niger-Delta and Douala.
